Parka London have recently brought out a range of coats which are made in England, like this vegan version with PrimaLoft insulation.

While we’re headlong into the most glorious Spring weather here in Australia, I’m currently hunting for a warm coat for my son who will be travelling to Italy this upcoming winter.

So of course I’m looking for something which is made without down or feathers in the padding, is well constructed, made from vegan materials and importantly: made to last. I’ve been pleasantly surprised to discover there are still plenty of brands making quality coats in Britain. Most of these are not vegan brands, but amongst their offerings they have some very elegant coats made without down, feathers or wool.

If you’re in the northern hemisphere and suddenly thinking about warm men’s coats which are vegan and made to a higher standard than cheap high street labels, here are some of the finest. From waterproof raincoats, designed for wet but not freezing weather, through to super-warm parkas suitable for Antarctic conditions, there is something here for all types of winters.

All made in England.

1: Buffalo systems: super warm & cosy.

  • Buffalo Systems outerwear is all made in Sheffield, England.

  • Warm coats range from the heavy weight Parka (image 1) which is made for Antarctic conditions, through to a Lightweight parker (image 4) and a Mountain Jacket (image 2 + 3).

  • The Mountain Jacket is used by mountain rescue teams, military and police so it’s got credibility as a long lasting garment which functions under tough conditions.

  • Construction: Pertex shell, Aqua Therm pile lining. (The Parka has Polar Therm pile lining.) All materials are synthetic and high performance.

  • Made in England. Available through various stockists, which can be found on the Buffalo Systems website.

2: Timber Padded Coat, by Parka London: warm & water resistant.

  • Available in dark khaki green with black trim, this winter coat features a hood, storm cuffs and is water resistant.

  • Composition: Upper body shell: cotton/ polyamide. Lower body shell: cotton. Lining: polyester.

3: private white vc: the classic mac. waterproof & breathable.

  • Made in Manchester, England, this single breasted Mac is a timeless classic.

  • Composition: 100% cottton Ventile® (a patented waterproof finish on cotton).

  • Waterproof and breathable, thanks to the cotton fabric, this is a lightweight coat which traps warmth.

  • Copper zip and stud closures.

  • Available in 9 colours (cloud grey shown above).

  • Made in Manchester, England. Ships worldwide.

4: gloverall billie parka coat: showerproof & lightweight.

  • The lightest of our options here, the Billie Parker Coat is a lightweight resin-coated cotton shower proof coat, which can roll up in a bag for unexpected blustery rain.

  • Has side pockets, raglan sleeves and an inverted box pleat so it’s not restricting.

  • Composition: 92% double-faced cotton/ 8% polyamide.
