10 Ethical Christmas Gift Ideas: A Last Minute Guide

This Christmas we're thinking about gifts that people will love and find useful, rather than just buying things for the sake of it.

If you're still searching for ethical, vegan gift ideas for your loved ones, here is a guide you may find useful..

1) Bake some treats

What are your favourite baked (or raw) goodies? Why not double your batch next time you make them, so you can share some with your friends too.

2) Ethically made chocolate

Or you could leave it to the professionals. Speaking from personal experience, these dairy-free chocolate brands are all highly delicious.

3) Preserve 5 vegan razor

These PETA-approved vegan razors (many on the market are tested on animals) are made from recycled plastic and come with blades coated in cocoa butter and aloe. Our favourite part though is that when you're finished with them, you can simply send them back to Preserve to be recycled into new ones. Yay planet love!

4) Miomojo Ethicool backpack, donates to help release bile bears

A vegan bag that helps prevent animal cruelty? Go Miomojo! This backpack is made from PVC-free vegan leather, is soft to touch and contains several pockets for every day convenience. And importantly, 10% of its proceeds are donated to Animals Asia.

5) Inaluxe 2017 calendar from Earth Greetings

Yep, we're truly smitten with this eco-friendly printing label. Earth Greetings use 100% recycled post-consumer board for their products, which are carbon neutrally printed with vegetable based ink.

We've had their 2016 calendar this year (done as a collaboration with Inaluxe - a design duo in country Victoria emphasising native wildlife), and the artwork is seriously stunning.

6) Heart shaped picnic basket hand made in Portugal

Have you ever seen a more adorable picnic basket than this? Imagine pulling strawberries and sandwiches out of the precious little thing.. it'd make for the most charming picnic ever!

The basket is handmade in Portugal, with a 100% cotton lining, and is designed to "bring love to all your picnics".

7) Milk and Cookies vegan bath soap

That's plant-based milk of course (teehee). This body wash looks so delicious that we're not sure if we want to eat it, or use it as a soap.

It comes from New Zealand beauty label Bonbon, who are 100% PETA-approved cruelty-free and vegan. (Yay happy animals!)

8) Love Tea's Herbal and Wellness Teas

This is our current favourite brand of tea, as we love both its ethics and flavours.

Blended by a naturopath, the combinations focus on types of wellness (pregnancy, cognitive, immunity and so on), as well as more traditional blends like French Earl Grey, Darjeeling & Ceylon Breakfast. There's even a chocolate chai flavour!

Ingredients are organic and sourced from Fair Trade partners, with an emphasis on supporting small producers.

Packaging is made from biodegradable materials, and the company is a member of 1% For the Planet, which involves donating 1% of their anuual net revenues to a range of environmental organisations around the globe.

9) Calm Balm by The Physqiue Garden

This organic body balm is handmade in Melbourne, using all natural ingredients. We use this and love its uplifting scent (stemming from bergamot, mandarin and cedarwood essential oils), as well as its deep moisturising effect.

10) Vouchers for your time

OK so this idea may sound a little corny at first, but it could actually make quite a heart-felt and unique gift! For example, you could offer to take your loved one to dinner or on a picnic, or to cook a meal for them yourself. How about a trip to the countryside, the beach or your favourite animal sanctuary?

You could also offer to check out a local art exhibition with them, or to see some theatre. The list is endless!

By Henrietta

Henrietta is the 'daughter' half of the Future King & Queen mother-daughter duo, and is the face you'll find in front of a camera. She strives to live gently on this earth, and to make the world a kinder, fairer place.

Henrietta is a recent graduate with a degree in Commerce + a diploma in French, and has a passion for using business skills to drive positive social change. She works in ethical fashion, and is also a model for ethical and sustainably minded brands (drop her a line here if you'd like to work with her).

After being vegetarian for many years, and gradually transitioning towards veganism, she attended a panel discussion 2 years ago on the dairy industry (held by Voiceless). From then on, it made complete sense to commit to a fully vegan lifestyle, as a way of being compassionate towards animals, the environment and people.

It was then a natural progression to consider the impacts of her other daily decisions, and so her interest in ethical fashion and sustainably minded living in general was born.
