What's in your toothpaste? Toxic ingredients to avoid.

If your toothpaste carries a warning label, perhaps it's simply better not to use it, and to find one that doesn't NEED a warning not to swallow.

Have you ever read the ingredients list on your toothpaste tube?

Or noticed that most toothpaste carries a warning not to swallow it?

There are several nasties which are common in major supermarket brands - which we would rather avoid as they are toxic in various doses. So why not just avoid them in the first place??

TRICLOSAN

Triclosan is known to be a hormone disruptor in animals (results on humans inconclusive). Also creates a reduced bacterial resistance & some studies suggest a carcinogen, but not all studies agree. It's banned in food in the E.U. & Australia although allowed in toothpaste up to 0.3% with a warning label not to swallow. Approved in toothpaste in the U.S. Considered very toxic to aquatic life - so when it goes down the bathroom drain it means trouble for the ocean's delicate ecosystem, as it doesn't degrade easily + reacts to form diotoxins.

SODIUM LAUREL SULPHATE

Sodium Laurel Sulphate is used to create foam. Links as a carcinogen vary with studies - meaning it's not conclusive but there is doubt. Proven conclusively to be an irritant in animals and humans. It does not break down in the waterways, so can be hazardous to aquatic life.

PARABENS

Parabens are used as a preservative, and are synthetically made from petroleum. Suspected endocrine (hormone) disruptors as they can mimic estrogen, and known to be easily absorbed through skin.

We would rather brush our teeth with a product that doesn't NEED a warning label - so we use products which don't include these 3 nasties. We ♡ Grants Herbal toothpaste because it actually works (!) and doesn't contain Parabens, Sodium Laurel Sulphate, Fluoride or Triclosan. It's certified vegan, made without petrochemicals & not tested on animals.

Available throughout Australia in most independent supermarkets and health food stores - but also available in Canada, the U.S., New Zealand, Malaysia & Singapore.♡♡
