Hemp in your undies? WAMA sustainable underwear

It's great in your smoothies, and it's pretty great in your wardrobe too. Wonder-crop hemp has long been known for its environmentally friendly credentials as a textile.

Hemp uses a fraction of water compared to conventional cotton, and with its dense and long root structures, it naturally protects itself against weeds and pests. This means it requires barely any herbicides or pesticides (or none at all).

It can also grow easily in drought-damaged soil, and produces a very high yield of crop compared to other natural textiles.

So basically, if you're looking for clothes made from eco-friendly fabrics, hemp is a great way to go.

Brand Story

WAMA Underwear studied hemp textiles, and when they learnt that hemp has some pretty great benefits like being naturally anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and super soft and breathable, they decided the fabric would be perfect for making undies.

They launched on Kickstarter a few months ago, and they kindly sent us some hipster briefs to share with you. I can attest that they are indeed soft and comfortable!

What are they made from + Where are they made?

  • 53% hemp / 44% organic cotton / 3% spandex
    (GOTS certified organic blend)
  • Made in China, with factories offering employees fair wages and quality working environments.

WAMA also make men's boxer briefs, which is great to see as men's sustainable fashion brands can be harder to come by than women's.
