5 Foods for Glowing Skin :: guest post by Anna from Edible Beauty

You know you have found skincare products that are brilliant when you go into a slight panic on realising you can't fit the bottles onto the plane with you for a trip! This was me when I was packing for our recent trip to Port Douglas, and I realised that I'd have to go for a whole week without my beloved skincare! (If I had thought beforehand, I would have ordered the mini kit for travelling - ahh!!)

I came across the Edible Beauty range last year, and tentatively ordered the value set of Cleanser, Toner, Serum & Moisturiser. Well my skin had never "tasted" anything like it, and I've been slowly adding to my collection since with eye cream, overnight sleeping beauty mask and so on. Each product has continued to impress me. It is literally made from ingredients which are edible (not that that is the intention of course!) and the scent is divine. I gave some to Henrietta to try, to see if it worked as well on young skin. Next thing, I noticed the levels in my bottles seemed to be depleting faster than before - she had become a fan too. (She now happily has her own collection...)

As a fully vegan brand, Edible Beauty is the brainchild of Anna Mitsios, a Naturopath & Nutritionist with a vision to create a truly luxurious botanical beauty range working on both the outside (skincare) and the inside (herbal teas), with a focus on specific skin conditions.

After using Anna's products, we were so impressed that we reached out to her to see if she would like to write a guest post on FKQ talking about which foods to eat for a glowing skin. She has also generously offered our readers a 20% discount on her entire product range of skincare and herbal teas.

Details of the discount code for this offer are at the bottom of this post, and meanwhile, read on to discover 5 foods to create glowing skin....

Over to you, Anna...

Five Foods for Glowing Skin:

1. Fermented ingredients

Gorgeous glowing skin is greatly influenced by our gut health. Believed to contain up to 80% of our immune system, having a healthy digestive system is key. To maintain a good balance of bacteria and improve your body’s absorption of nutrients, try introducing fermented foods into your diet. Think anything from kimchi and sauerkraut to yogurt and kombucha!

Popular in Europe, sauerkraut for example is made from finely shredded cabbage and layered salt left to ferment. During this fermentation process, probiotics are formed to aid gut flora and assist with the treatment of skin concerns such as acne and wrinkles.

2. Avocado

Rich in healthy fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants, Avocados work to improve your skin from the insides out. These antioxidant properties help protect the skin from environmental damage that causes fine lines, wrinkles and other visible signs of ageing. This delicious vegetable also assists in the production of collagen and elastin, to maintain skin’s structure and firmness. Filled with healthy fats, avocados are deeply moisturising to leave skin soft and hydrated.

Too much avocado? There’s no such thing! Our Sleeping Beauty Purifying Mousse contains avocado oil derived from plant esters. Incredible for balancing the skin, it’s the perfect skincare ingredient for anyone struggling with hormonal acne or an oily t-zone.

3. Papaya

Containing enzymes which naturally cleanse and buff away dead cells, papaya is fantastic whether eaten or applied directly to the skin. With a high fibre content coupled with the key enzyme papain, eating payaya aids in digestion to encourage gut health. While you’re enjoying this refreshing fruit, try blending it until smooth for a naturally hydrating face mask.

Containing the superstar ingredient papaya, our No.2 Foundation of Youth Jar is a unique blend of botanicals and antioxidant rich berries. Alongside vitamins K and C to enhance radiance, this hydrating tea will leave you glowing.

4.Blueberries

Known for their incredible antioxidant properties, blueberries also contain vitamins A, E and C to assist with collagen production and neutralize free radicals. Protecting the skin from environmental damage, these berries are naturally anti-inflammatory to reduce redness in the skin. As they work to balance hormones and reduce the appearance of dark spots, blueberries are ideal for anyone with acne prone complexions.

5.Turmeric

Much like blueberries, turmeric is loaded with antioxidants. Used for centuries in Chinese and Indian medicine, turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties have been linked to everything from lowered cholesterol to improved joint pain.

When it comes to your skin, this ancient spice helps to reduce redness and acne scarring while calming conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

Our recommendation? Swap out your morning coffee for a golden turmeric latte. Your skin will thank you.

Thanks Anna! We both smiled when we read your words because these are amongst our very favourite foods. In fact, Henrietta sneaks turmeric and fermented foods into pretty much everything she prepares - making her meals look fabulously colourful in the process.

This is a great reminder to up the content of fresh fruits throughout the day - now we have yet another reason to do so apart from their delicious taste!
